Open Letter to the Clark County Commission

Late in 2011, Clark County District Attorney David Roger announced that he would be retiring from that position. Mr. Roger's last day as District Attorney was January 3, 2012. Pursuant to statutory authority, the Clark County Commission convened to appoint a candidate to the office of District Attorney subject to reelection at the conclusion of Mr. Roger's term. On January 24, 2012, the county commissioners appointed Steve Wolfson to that office.

In December of 2011, the NACJ submitted a letter to the county commissioners. That letter outlined areas of concern in the way that Mr. Roger's administration had prosecuted cases, areas that the NACJ suggested should be considered in selecting a new District Attorney. That letter is reprinted below, with some minor edits for online formatting. Click "read more" to see the letter the NACJ sent.

Nevada Attorneys for Criminal Justice

The Nevada Attorneys for Criminal Justice (NACJ) is an organization of criminal defense attorneys whose goal is to protect and ensure the individual rights guaranteed to all people by the Nevada and Federal Constitutions and to improve the quality and administration of justice for those people accused of crimes. NACJ also provides a voice for the Nevada criminal defense bar by allowing the criminal defense bar to participate in the Nevada legislative process, as well as provides a forum for sharing information and support for those who practice criminal defense.
